It was said, by Christ himself, “Where two or more are gathered in My name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  In our retreats, and throughout this summer, we have surely felt His presence among us!  After a lively June retreat with every room accounted for, we gathered for our 5th Diocesan Wide Supper and Substance in a whole new, hip and happening venue!  Although the heavens opened up with buckets of rain, couples matching up to about 230 or more people paddled their way out to Rock n’ Bowl to mingle, bowl, dance to the tunes of Peace of Cake band, and listen to an inspiring, humorous and convicting presentation from Saints Coach Joe Lombardi and lovely wife, Molly.   You could feel the enthusiasm of couples enjoying one another on their date night out, having fellowship with other couples,  kicking back in their jeans and bowling/dancing shoes, and just letting loose!  Equally contagious was the desire set on our hearts to move in our faith after hearing the “never give up” “go-getter” words from the Lombardis along with  their hunger for truth and commitment to Catholicism in their hearts for their family and their marriage.  Needless to say the night was a success and we look forward to repeating a night like this in the future.

In the spirit of Matthew 18:20, we’d like to continue to gather and feel His presence among us in new ways, and broaden the horizon of our ministry set out to bring Christ into our marriages, our families and our lives.  Remember that Jesus didn’t  merely offer His presence when two were gathered, but He left the invitation for more.  This fall, we invite families to gather with us while we team up with Dumb Ox Productions’ teen ministry for a NEW adventure for retreats entitled, “A Family That Prays”. This will be a powerful weekend getaway designed to enrich marriages, faith and family.  Spouses will be able to grow closer in their sacrament while their teens explore a deeper understanding and encounter with God.  After each group of teens and married couples have been grouped in their respective retreats on Saturday,  families return together on Sunday for a memorable family experience led by Archbishop Gregory Aymond!
Through God’s grace, each family may walk away with a renewed strength and deeper commitment to each other and to God.  This can only be achieved through your support  in both presence and prayer.  Lord, may your will be done.  Thank you for this most blessed opportunity!

A Family that Prays Retreat for Married Couples and their Teens!
On November 3rd & 4th we had our first “Family That Prays” retreat.  Lord willing, it will not be our last!  Since Elise & I have worked with the Willwoods Community, we have had the privilege to have ministered on 30 plus married couples retreats. We have seen, time and time again, God bless and give special graces to all those who have attended. We have watched, first hand, marriages become strengthened, renewed, rejuvenated, and in some cases, saved.
But before our work in marriage ministry, we each were blessed to have an active role in various youth ministry, be it teen retreats, conferences, or young adult events and workshops. We saw the power of God move in the hearts of the youth, a real inspiration! We prayed during and after each retreat or prayer group held for these teens that they would be well received and supported by their families when they returned home.
And now here we are, reflecting on our very first “Family that Prays retreat, a retreat geared specifically for married couples and their teens which before had seemed merely a dream/wish/prayer.   How grateful we are to so many for assisting our Faith and Marriage Ministry for making this happen. Thank you to Brian Butler and those of the Dumb Ox Staff for putting on such an amazing retreat at Camp Abbey while our married couples were led by three lovely presenting couples who witnessed their lives to us in faith and truth at the Christian Life Center.  Most importantly, we thank our shepherd, Archbishop Gregory Aymond for his desire to have this family retreat and for his presence, witnessing, and celebration of the mass.  Such leadership helped this answered prayer come to life for all of us and how blessed we were when we witness to one another as teens and parents returned to one another on Sunday to share their faith walks and commitments with one another! We truly wish our whole Willwoods Family could have been there! His presence was there, as always.
If you are interested in attending our next Family That Prays retreat, please let us know. If you have grandchildren that are teens, we welcome you too! With Advent and Christmas upon us, what better gift, then to give the gift that keeps on giving, like a retreat, be it one for the family or married couple.

Saints Know Best:
“Of all devotions, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the greatest after the Sacraments, the one dearest to God and the one most helpful to us. The Eucharist is a priceless treasure: By not only celebrating the Eucharist, but also by praying before It outside of Mass, we are enabled to make contact with the very wellsprings of Grace.”  - St. Alphonsus Liguori
Do you believe that if you, your spouse and your family spent time before the Blessed Sacrament it would greatly bless your marriage and family life? If you are open to a bank account of blessings that comes with far better rewards than Capital One, than turn to the One – “What’s in your heart?”

During this upcoming advent season try spending quiet time with the Lord individually, as a couple and as a family.
Individual Time:
Commit to make a once-a-month holy hour, holy half-hour, or holy “hi”- five – which is going to your local adoration chapel or your parish church and being before Jesus in the Eucharist to say “hi” to Him and to be present with him for at least 5 minutes. When time is not on your side, a “holy ‘hi’ five” might be a great option to help keep the goal of visiting our Lord even in the busiest of times.
Encourage your spouse to make an hour-long appointment with Jesus while asking him/her how you can help to schedule this time.
Couple Time: Before or at the end of each “date night,” drive out to the Adoration Chapel for a brief prayer of thanksgiving for each other and for blessings on your marriage.
Family Time: It can be very difficult to bring the whole family together in quiet prayer time, especially with little ones, but remember what our Lord said: “Let the children come to me.” (Matthew 19:14). One idea that we recommend is Pictures for Jesus: If you have little children, ask them to draw a picture for Jesus during the time spent in the chapel. Make suggestions for the picture: something to say sorry or thank you to Him, or just to let Him know He is special to them. If the Adoration Chapel has a box where you deposit prayer requests, ask your child to place their “picture for Jesus” where prayers are offered.   Remember,  Christ himself said, “Let the children come unto me!” even their simplest prayers, petitions, and pictures¸ are most precious in his sight… and should be a witness to us all!

Thank you very much and may God continue to bless you and your family!
